Camp update

Today's sports was "water day!" --it's a favorite every year! It's also the only day we haven't had rain at some point during the day, making it possible to actually enjoy being in water. The weather this week has been pretty humid, thunderstormy, rainy off & on and unpredictable--not very fun camp weather, but they've been making the most of it!

The plan was actually to have the evening programs outside under a large Army type tent. The first night during their third song, a downpour suddenly began, leaving everyone to run as fast as they could back to the building. After that, they decided it would be just be better to cram into the meeting room than fight the weather.

The week has been going great! The team from Modesto, California brought some really fun things for late night activities and have been doing a good job teaching and building relationships with students. Yesterday was the Amazing Race day and Joel said all the teams had a good time and arrived safely back at camp, exhausted.

The theme this year for evening program talks has been "Stories." Joel and Todd have been tag-teaming the talks, sharing in story form, the Story of God as told in the Bible. It's brought out some different reactions in everyone. Some who have been at camp before feel that it's impersonal, (usually the talks progress throughout the week ending with God, the Bible & Jesus toward the end of the week with the speakers personal life stories intermixed the whole week.) This year though, it is only stories from the Bible, giving a (very basic) overview of the Bible. Others though, who haven't been to camp before have said that hearing the Bible in this way is changing them and that they've never heard the Bible like this before and they really like it. Either way, God is being talked about and thought about and that is what is most important!! : )

The kids & I have been making the 40 minute drive after Eli's morning nap, getting there in time for lunch and staying through dinner. The kids are exhausted! Elijah's voice is all raspy and sounds like he's actually been "at" camp all week! Most evenings, the drive home is like the picture below, leaving a quiet car for me to think and pray.
