WIC

Last week we finally made it to the office to sign up for WIC. We weren't sure if we would qualify, but after Caleb was born, it put us over the top for at least the next three months! It was a long 3 hours of filling out paperwork, being weighed and measured and meeting with a nutritionist, but the end result was worth it!!

We received 3 months (including December even though the month was almost over!) of vouchers for healthy food for Women, Infants & Children...that's us right now! The American government doesn't do everything right, but this is one program that is a definite keeper!

Each month we'll receive:

11 gallons of Milk & 2 quarts of Milk (we're a milk drinking family...we may just drink it all too!)
3 lbs of Cheese
2 lbs of Brown Rice
18 boxes of 12 ounces of Cereal (various brands to choose from)
$22 in vouchers for fresh or frozen fruits and/or vegetables
1 lb of whole wheat bread
2 lbs of whole wheat tortillas
4 dozen eggs
3-18 ounce jars of Peanut Butter
4-64 ounce bottles of Juice
3-12 ounce Frozen Juice
1 lb bag of beans
6-5 ounce cans of tuna

Wow!! What a shopping list and it's all paid for by the government! The day we received the approval, I don't think they had seen such a happy recipient for awhile. We feel so blessed to be receiving all of this!
Joel even did the grocery shopping the other night! I had just a short list of other items to actually pay for, most of which were buy one, get one free and I had coupons, so he came home with all of this (and more actually, we've ate some of the produce) as well as the five items that I'd requested and he spent less than $8!!
