Celebrating Lent with Friends

The season of Lent has been special this year. We've gotten together with another family once a week to do a special Easter activity. We've known the Rasmussen family since Abby was in Kindergarten with their son, Drew but it wasn't until earlier this fall when they began coming to Cornerstone that we've really gotten to spend time with them and build friendships with them.

Creating Resurrection Gardens was the first activity we did together. I took the kids down to the Sandy River to find a nice, round rock to put in front of the tomb and they used other rocks that we have from our trip to Southern France the summer of 2009. Kinda fun to use them in this special way!

This is how it's grown!

The following week we watched a 20 minute video of one of the thiefs on the cross as he told how his life was changed after meeting Jesus. (It was all hypothetical, especially considering that he even lived to tell about it. ;) There were some questions at the end of the video and it was great to hear the bigger kids giving answers. The little ones had fun just being together and eating the rice-krispy treats afterward! ;)

Art projects were done the third week. The big kids painted crosses on canvas while the little ones did some water color and stained glass crosses. They had so much fun being creative and now we have some hand-made, colorful artwork in the house. I love it!

Frosting cookies and creating Easter Service Invitations and cards to hand out to neighbors and friends rounded up our fourth week. I love watching the creativity come out while decorating cookies. They're always so different, colorful and cute!

 This was the one he chose to eat. He piled it high with all the sprinkles and candy pieces he could fit on it! Sugar, sugar, sugar! ;) PS--sneaky photo of his toothless grin...he's so cute!

The kids did a great job on the invitations and Easter cards for people.
