One of our favorite times of the year is summer time...picnic season in Slovenia! The food is amazing and we really love the laid back feeling of a Slovenian picnic. They usually start around noon and end after dinner sometime, sometimes even later! The time is spent eating good food, having great conversations, going for walks or playing some sport, eating some more good food, etc. It's really, really enjoyable!
Our first picnic this year was actually a wedding reception for a couple that Joel plays soccer with, Bostjan & Natasa. They were married the weekend before and then had the reception as a picnic with all their friends the following weekend. It was so enjoyable! There was lots of fresh fruit, the traditional picnic meat (civapcici--an amazing sausage similar to breakfast sausage, chicken & hot-dogs) lots of bread and salads. So yummy!
Joel's soccer team and all their kids were all there, so it was fun to get time with all of them again. The guys even ended up playing another game of soccer together. Abigail & Elijah kept themselves busy playing on the slide and tire swing and playing with other kids their ages that were all running around.

We also just had a picnic at our house to welcome all the interns that are here with Josiah Venture for the summer. It's a great way to meet them all and just to get together as a team one last enjoyable time before we all split ways doing our various English camps and summer activities.
The next day we had a repeat of a picnic we had last year. Ness is a sweet girl that has become part of Trdna Skala over the last year and a half. Kathy spent A LOT of time with her over her year here and they still have regular phone dates even now that Kathy is back in Oregon. Last year, we all went to a picnic at Ness's house along with Zan's family. So this past Sunday we did a repeat of that but we missed you Kathy!!
Both of Ness's parents and Zan's mom participated in an English class for parents that Joel did last year. It was such a great way to get to know their parents! They are really great families!
This weekend, we're actually enjoying some thunderstormy and rainy weather. No picnics to attend today or tomorrow. But! We are looking forward to more picnics the rest of the summer!!

You really have been making the piknik circut!
Oh man, I miss those Slovene picnics! Will you eat a pleskavica burger for me? Thanks! Ness told me about the picnic and sent me a picture of it. I was sad to have missed it. In fact, I think I cried after I talked to her. Yep, my heart is divided...half there and half here.
Yeah for Abigail! Tell her good job from all of us here. Sure wish we could be at some of those special occasions with you all.
